7 - FUTURE TENSES: BE GOING TO / WILL / PRESENT CONTINUOUS


The Future


1. Will form

Usiamo will / won’t (= will not ) + infinitive per le previsioni future, quando decidiamo qualcosa al momento di parlare e anche per promettere o offrire di fare qualcosa.
“She will be back soon.”

2. Present continuous

Avrai sentito parlare delle persone dei propri programmi futuri. Guardiamo un esempio:
Question: “What are you doing this weekend?”
Answer: “I’m meeting my sister.”
Come definiamo questa forma verbale? Sì, è il present continuous, ma in questo caso stiamo parlando di programmi futuri.

3. Differenza tra present continuous e be going to

Qual è la differenza tra usare ‘be going to’ e il present continuous per parlare di programmi futuri? Guardiamo qualche esempio:
  • Be going to
“I’m going to play football on Saturday”
Hai fatto un piano nella tua testa ma non hai fatto nulla di concreto per confermarlo. Inoltre forse giocare a football di domenica non è una cosa abituale per te.
  • Present continuous
“I’m playing football on Saturday”
Hai fatto un piano e fatto delle azioni concrete per confermarlo (ad esempio, hai chiamato i tuoi amici o prenotato il posto dove giocare). In questo caso, è probabile che giocare a football di domenica è un’attività abituale per te.
